Chapter Seventeen
Florian's flawless handsomeness should have set my motive off the second I opened the door. But transferring my raging desires onto him wasn't what I was after.
"You got it?" I eyed the book in his hand.
"Here you go." He handed it over and marched into the living room. "Have you had enough of your no-man time?"
The humor in his voice cleared my head a little. "Uh. I don't know. I need to research something."
"You don't look good. Are you ill?" He lifted his arm to feel my head.
I ducked away. Involving him in my insanity attack had been a risk, but Flo had always been my first port of call. No one and nothing would change that. It didn't hurt that the Duprees owned an extensive library. When he told me on the phone that they possessed a book on the sidhes, I nearly sobbed in relief. It had to contain the answer, had to, because if it didn't…
Still, until my hormones had decided on what to do with Flo, it might be best to not get too cozy with him. Even the most innocuous touch could set me off.
"Ivy?" His voice hummed with concern.
"I'm really not looking for pity, okay?" I leafed through the pages, although my ice-cold fingertips didn't make this an easy task.
He lifted his hand. "Easy."
"Sorry." I closed my eyes and concentrated on my breathing. "Still a little bit upset from yesterday. And this no-man idea backfired."
"How?" He took my hand.
I recoiled, but almost immediately, my thoughts tore themselves free from the molasses of my hormones for the first time in many hours. The urge to find sexual gratification any which way faded.
Could touch be the answer? Was this what a satyr's motive and allure were about? Physical contact? One by one the pixels in my brain switched color until a picture formed. If a touch from a friend could calm me, no wonder intercourse, the ultimate kind of contact, was the feel-good peak for a satyr.
"Earth to Ivy." Flo slanted forward into my line of sight.
"Hang on. I'm thinking." I held on to him, let his warmth flow into me. My need for sex disappeared back to a soft background music.
I closed my eyes, filled my lungs with oxygen. Yup. I was myself again. For now.
I shut the book. "This is amazing. My mind's been screaming at me to find a man, and you come along, and my sex drive all but vanishes."
"What every man wants to hear." His lips pursed.
"Sorry. That came out wrong." I smirked. "I've been going crazy. Waylon kept going through my head, then Greg and Parker. I was in withdrawal, complete with nausea and a migraine. There seemed to be no way out of this insanity. Then you came along, and I'm better."
He looked at me with uncertainty.
I hugged him. "You might say you have the magic touch." I kissed his cheek. "Thank you."
He grinned. "Well, you're not the first woman to say that."
I nudged him.
"I'm sorry you're having such a hard time with being kin.
